‘Development Funding & the Opportunity to Supply Components’

UQM Technologies is collaborating with fellow Coloradan Lightning Systems on electric-drive vehicles, specifically Ford-chassis vehicles under the automaker’s eQVM/Advanced Fuel Qualified Vehicle Modifier initiative.

Ford introduced eQVM, with Lightning an initial participant, earlier this year as a complement to its QVM program for natural gas- and propane autogas-powered vehicles (F&F, March 15).

UQM, describing itself as the “strategic EV propulsion system supplier” for Lightning’s EVs, will supply such powertrain components as gearbox, electric motor and inverter, “as well as software controls for the EV performance and efficiency.”

‘A Major Accomplishment’

“This collaboration will provide UQM both development funding and the opportunity to supply components to Lightning Systems to support their vehicles as part of the Advanced Fuel Qualified Vehicle Modifier (eQVM) program by Ford,” UQM says.

“It is a major accomplishment for both respective companies located in Colorado to be in a position to support green technology initiatives,” states the release.

“The synergies that exist between our companies are ideal for the EV market with respect to clean technology, geographic location, and learned experience,” UQM president and CEO Joe Mitchell says in his company’s announcement.

The CEOs Are Pleased

“This relationship allows Lightning Systems the opportunity to support its current and future growth customers with quality engineered products and excellent customer service solutions,” Mitchell said.

“This relationship will allow us to provide leading edge technology that will exceed our customers’ expectations for high quality and cost-effective zero emissions vehicles,” said Lightning Systems president and CEO Tim Reeser.
