BAE Drives in Seven 60-Footers for Sure, Maybe 20
New Flyer Industries reports a firm order for seven of its XDE60 Xcelsior 60-foot articulated hybrid electric transit buses for Lane Transit of Eugene, Ore., and says that options for 13 additional vehicles could bring the total order to 20.
The new buses will have series hybrid electric drives from BAE Systems, says Lane Transit maintenance supervisor Dave Svendsen. Lane’s existing hybrid buses – 24 forty-foot vehicles and 24 sixty-foot vehicles, have parallel drives from Allison, he told F&F.
“Over the last decade,” the manufacturer says, “New Flyer has built and delivered 29 60-foot diesel and diesel electric hybrid buses to Lane Transit. The last award was in 2014 with the delivery of three diesel electric hybrid Xcelsior buses.”
“Lane Transit has proven to be a leader in providing green transportation to their annual ridership of over 11,000,000 customers,” New Flyer president and CEO Paul Soubry says in the latest announcement.
