New Chassis Joins Six GM Vehicles with Hybrid Drive
AmeriPride is adding Ford F59-chassis service trucks fitted with an XL3 hybrid electric drivetrain from XL Hybrids to its fleet, XL said today. The vehicle is featured in XL’s display at this week’s NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis. updated March 4
The F59-chassis trucks join half a dozen GM vans with XL drives that have collectively logged more than 200,000 miles for AmeriPride, yielding a miles-per-gallon improvement, XL says, of about 24%.
“Our technology partnership with XL Hybrids has yielded tangible results for our corporate fleet that are helping AmeriPride Services with our corporate sustainability goal to reduce our carbon footprint,” AmeriPride Services fleet manager Banny Allison says in the XL Hybrids announcement at NTEA.
Improved Driver Productivity
“AmeriPride is implementing a variety of sustainability programs across North America including alternative fuel vehicles, heat reclamation systems in the plants, solar power, mat and paper recycling, water conservation and more.”
“The fuel efficiency improvements from XL Hybrids technology actually improve the productivity of our drivers who can go longer between fill-ups to make more product deliveries,” he said.
CNG, Propane, Battery and Hydraulic Hybrid Power Too
In addition to the XL-modified vehicles, AmeriPride operates battery electric vehicles and vehicles fueled by compressed natural gas and by propane autogas. The company’s Canadian Linen unit deployed a Lightning Hybrids hydraulic hybrid in Toronto in 2014 (F&F, November 18, 2014).
In notching 200,000 XL miles since 2013, AmeriPride has saved more than 3,000 gallons of fuel saved and avoided more than 30 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. “Over the projected eight- to ten-year life of these vehicles with XL Hybrids technology, AmeriPride is tracking to reduce more than 15,000 gallons of fuel,” states today’s announcement.
Wireless Data Tracking
XL adds, “All field results are being captured by XL Hybrids’ proprietary wireless data connectivity system which tracks key performance indicators like MPG, vehicle duty cycle and CO2 emissions reduction. F-59 trucks upfitted with XL Hybrids technology in 2016 will significantly increase these sustainability accomplishments.”
“Our XL3 hybrid system provides up to a 25% increase in miles per gallon, with minimal impact to fleet operations, and no driver training or charging infrastructure requirements,” said XL cofounder and COO Clay Siegert.
The XL3 hybrid system is installed aft of the transmission in about six to eight hours. Fleets maintain their Ford OEM warranties and get a three-year, 75,000 mile warranty on the XL3 hybrid powertrain.
