Best Buy is deploying more than 1,000 Toyota Prius C hybrids as the new “Geekmobile” for the retailer’s Geek Squad home service technicians. updated April 15
“An armada of agents is about to roll out,” Toyota said today.
“When Geek Squad began more than 20 years ago, it was a small, local business dedicated solely to repairing personal computers,” Best Buy said. “Now, it is a national organization of more than 20,000 agents who visit homes 13,000 times a day to help customers learn about and enjoy their technology.”
‘100.8 Million Furlongs’ Per Year
Geek Squad agents “drive an estimated 12.6 million miles (or roughly 20.3 million kilometers, 100.8 million furlongs or 4.2 million leagues),” said geek-accommodating Toyota “making the hip hatch’s EPA estimated city fuel economy of 53 mpg particularly attractive.”
“Geek Squad selected the Prius C because of its innovative engineering and environmental advantages,” Best Buy says, adding, “The new, greener Geekmobile will cut the Geek Squad fleet’s emissions by 50%.
More than 700 Prius C are to be deployed in the coming weeks with the remaining vehicles phased in by year-end, says Best Buy spokeswoman Paul Baldwin.
“This is a national fleet, so the Geekmobile will be virtually everywhere across the U.S.,” she told F&F.
