30 Allison Drive Buses Are First New Flyers for Long Island Agency
New Flyer of America reports a contract with the Suffolk County Department of Public Works, located in Yaphank, N.Y., for as many as 73 diesel-fueled Xcelsior hybrid electric buses.
“The contract includes firm orders for ten Xcelsior 40-foot diesel-electric hybrid buses and twenty 35-foot Xcelsior hybrid buses,” states a release.
“In addition, 43 diesel-electric buses in either 35- or 40-foot length may be exercised as options off of this contract over the next 5-years.”
‘The Very First Time’
“This is the very first time we have built our best-in-class Xcelsior bus for Suffolk County,” New Flyer sales and marketing VP Paul Smith said in the Suffolk County contract announcement.
“We look forward to providing our customer with a quality and dependable Xcelsior heavy duty bus model as well as building a long-lasting relationship,” he said.
Buy America Compliant
The 43 option buses remaining in the contract will be included in New Flyer’s backlog, New Flyer says. They “are Buy America compliant, with the majority of the build completed at New Flyer’s Crookston, Minnesota facility.”
The vehicles will have parallel hybrid drives from Allison Transmission, says a New Flyer source.
