Vancouver’s Ballard Power Systems (Toronto:BLD and NASDAQ:BLDP) reports deals to supply 25 of its FCvelocity HD6 hydrogen fuel cell power modules for buses for Sao Paulo, and 21 to Belgium’s Van Hool for buses for Norway. The combination “points to significant progress toward commercialization of zero-emission fuel cell buses in 2012,” Ballard president and CEO John Sheridan said in a release.
Ballard also reports that the BC Transit fleet of 20 fuel cell buses introduced for the Winter Olympics in Whistler, north of Vancouver, and still operating, have logged more than a million miles of revenue service.
As in British Columbia, Brazil will showcase its fuel cell buses at world athletic events. National climate initiatives “will be implemented during the lead-up to the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympic Games being held in that country, and beyond,” Ballard says.
Separately, Toronto’s Hydrogenics (Toronto:HYG and NASDAQ:HYGS) reported a contract to supply a HySTAT 30 electrolyzer for hydrogen fueling in Holland.
