Quantum Fuel Systems (NASDAQ:QTWW) reports an engineering development contract from India’s Mahindra & Mahindra to develop hydrogen systems for a mini-bus.
Quantum is to engineer and modify Mahindra’s 2.5-liter engine to run on hydrogen, while improving vehicle performance characteristics through enhanced electronic control software strategies and engine calibration. Quantum will supply lightweight hydrogen storage and proprietary hydrogen fuel injection systems. Quantum will define and implement engine electronic control strategy, and perform emission, performance and durability testing at Lake Forest, Calif.
In India, Quantum says, the transportation sector accounts for nearly 20% of greenhouse gas emissions. “Hydrogen is identified as one of the key fuels in the long term to mitigate emission.”
The Mahindra Group is a $14.4 billion, Mumbai-based multinational employing more than 144,000 people in 100-plus countries.
