The Friday Fleet Conference Is Sponsored by NAFA
Organizers including the NAFA Fleet Management Association are gearing up for the 7th Annual Alternative Energy and Transportation Expo, aka the 2012 AltCar Expo & Conference, which runs September 28-29 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, Calif.
The Focus on Fleets conference on Friday, September 28, sponsored by NAFA and the Municipal Equipment Maintenance Association, will feature “cutting edge information on alternative vehicle technology, infrastructure and sustainability,” with discussion of best practices, challenges and success stories.
“Alternative fuels is such an essential concern for our membership today,” NAFA executive director Phillip Russo says in an event release. “Getting the word out on fleet management’s impact to both the industry and to the public at large is paramount to our mission.”
Los Angeles County Mayor Michael Antonovich will provide Friday’s keynote address. “Innovation and development of alternative energy, resources and clean, convenient and efficient transportation are vital to the economy and the quality of life here in Los Angeles County,” Antonovich said.
Also in Santa Monica, a lifetime achievement award will be presented to Riverside Mayor Ronald Loveridge.
“Los Angeles County encourages neighboring municipalities to utilize alternative fleet vehicles,” said Rick Teebay, program manager for the Los Angeles County Office of Sustainability. “AltCar is the meeting ground for fleet managers and industry insiders
In addition to Teebay, scheduled AltCar speakers and discussion moderators include City of Santa Ana fleet manager and MEMA board president Rick Longobart, and sustainable design architect Eric Corey Freed.
‘Nobody Has a Ride-and-Drive Like Us’
“AltCar is the best-attended and the most extensive presentation of across the board alternative technology vehicles, alternative transportation, urban planning, energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction options education,” organizers say. “Alternative transportation experts will share ways to use less energy and reduce carbon footprints without making significant lifestyle changes.”
The open-to-the-public expo, which runs through Saturday, will include hydrogen, electric and natural gas vehicles. There will be approximately 40 vehicles in the public ride-and-drive.
“Nobody has a rode-and-drive like us,” veteran AltCar organizer Christine Dzilvelis told F&F.
On-line registration for the Santa Monica AltCar Expo Friday fleet conference opens on August 18. A Texas version of the AltCar Expo is planned for early November in Dallas – Stay Tuned!
