Retrofit Kit Uses DGB/Dynamic Gas Blending
Caterpillar is getting ready to offer its DGB/dynamic gas blending retrofit kit for the Cat 785C mine haul truck, allowing the vehicle to run on a mix of liquefied natural gas and diesel fuel, “lowering fuel cost and maintaining diesel power and transient performance.”
“We’ve recently completed validation of the retrofit kit on the 785C mining truck with excellent results,” Cat gas engine business commercial manager Steve Igoe. “The kit will allow customers to reduce fuel costs significantly by using LNG.
“Natural gas and LNG offer both economic and environmental benefits to the mining industry,” Igoe said.
Available in January
The 785C retrofit kit is Caterpillar’s first DGB system for mining machines. It’s to be available for purchase in January 2018 via the company’s global Cat dealer network.
“The retrofit kit is built on proven Cat DGB technology… used in the oil and gas industry since 2013,” Igoe said. “It offers a peak substitution of up to 85% of diesel with natural gas and gets the same performance, reliability and payload as a diesel truck…
Fuel Savings Up to 40%
“This will allow our customers to realize a 20 to 40% savings on fuel costs, which can represent millions of dollars each year for a large mine.”
“Caterpillar will offer additional DGB systems in the future,” the company says in the 785C DGB announcement.
