Universal Lubricants has long offered products containing recycled oils as part of its Eco Ultra line, and is now kicking off an Eco Ultra variant of its Orion lubricating oil for natural gas engines that is likewise made with recycled feedstocks – as much as 83%.

‘The average four-quart oil change using Eco Ultra helps preserve our natural resources while reducing our need for foreign oil by two barrels,’ says Wichita-based Universal Lubricants.

“We can blend and formulate to meet the needs with re-refined base oils,” says CEO John Wesley. Fleets going green with natural gas now have another green product to use, he says, as the re-refined product consumes no new oil.

“We are the only closed-loop provider in our industry,” Wesley says, in that the firm picks up used motor oil from fleets and re-processes it, and also delivers fresh oil – now available with recycled content for natural gas vehicle operators – to those same customers. “The oil itself never breaks down,” Wesley told F&F, meaning that the Universal-cleansed product, with fresh additives as appropriate, performs as well as “virgin” product.

Wichita, Kans.-based Universal, which was established in 1929, also offers Sargas, a motor oil for irrigation systems running on natural gas powered engines, and Polaris, for high horsepower natural gas engines.
