NGV Motori reports the first-ever U.S. EPA approval of the Mercedes 906 for dedicated natural gas operation, widening the choices available to operators and would-be operators of natural gas vehicles.
A dozen were installed by East Brunswick, N.J.-based Clean Vehicle Solutions (CVS) for a municipal bus client in New Jersey, says NGV Motori USA CEO Sunny DeWakar.
His firm’s strategy is to develop and certify kits for an engine type and have clients to do their own installations using gaseous fuel regulators, engine control units, tubes and fittings and other necessary hardware from NGV Motori. “We will train your staff to reduce your cost of conversion,” DeWakar says.
The selection of compressed natural gas fuel cylinders is up to the customer – but when NGV Motori secures U.S. DoT approval of Type I and Type II CNG tanks from NGC Motori (C for cylinder) in Thailand, they’ll become an option with the engine kits.
In addition to the 6.4-liter Mercedes (or Detroit Diesel) 906 engine, NGV Motori reports full approval for a 2010 E-350 Ford Package and Ford E-450 vehicles for 2007, 2008, and 2009.
“Not only do we offer our partners the ability to convert current diesel engines to dedicated natural gas, we offer them the ability to target a wide variety of engines in all models and ages,” the company says.
“Our corporate focus is to offer the marketplace solutions for a wide variety of diesel to natural gas systems with best practices in design, engineering and support while offering a price competitive advantage and stellar support.” NGV Motori claims more than 30 years of experience in NGVs on global markets.
In addition to CVS in New Jersey, current U.S. installation partners include Dallas-based Natural Gas Vehicles Texas, Inc.
