Document to Help Fleets Transition to Natural Gas Vehicles

The Ottawa-based Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance has released a technical guideline to help fleet owners transition their vehicles – and facilities – to natural gas.

Originally established as a committee of the Canadian Gas Association, the Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance was incorporated as a not-for-profit entity in January 2000.

“The new guideline gathers all of the required information in one place in order to simplify the process of making facilities safe for natural gas vehicle use,” CNGVA says. As such, it can help natural gas vehicle operators determine modifications needed for regulatory compliance and to ensure the safe operation of their NGVs.

“Natural gas is a proven and safe fuel for transportation, but its properties are different than those of liquid fuels,” CNGVA president Alicia Milner said in a release. “These differences need to be understood and addressed in indoor facilities where vehicles are maintained, stored or loaded.”

The free document (available by request) covers both compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas installations – CNG and LNG. A French-language version is in preparation.
