‘Inexpensive and Rapid Path’ to NGV Commercialization
Emission Solutions, Inc. has retained Easton, Md.-based Equity Partners to seek a buyer for its natural gas engine business. ESI is one of only two companies with a natural gas engine certified for 2012 federal EPA and California emission standards, EP says.
ESI owns two patents being utilized primarily on Navistar diesel engine core platforms, EP said this week, noting that “both are applicable to any diesel engines.” ESI has worked with Navistar dealers and upfitters and has supplied Navistar with engine components for new natural gas vehicles. Navistar said last year, however, that it would offer trucks with engines from Cummins Westport (F&F, October 5).
“This is a unique opportunity to purchase an inexpensive and rapid path to providing natural gas engines and/or repowering fleets of existing diesel powered vehicles,” EP’s Matt LoCascio, a managing director, says in his firm’s announcement.
“In the near future,” LoCascio said, “it is likely that every diesel engine manufacturer will want the ability to make natural gas and/or propane versions of their engines; ESI provides the technology to get them there quickly.
“In addition, there is an opportunity to acquire ESI’s technology to reduce third party conversion costs, using 90% of the OEM’s parts, minimizing the need for the dealer to carry additional inventories.”
