Two 114SD NGs Are Going to the NTEA Work Truck Show
Freightliner is emphasizing a hard-working truck at this year’s Work Truck Show, having brought one CNG-fueled 114SD NG (severe duty natural gas) dump truck to the Green Truck Ride-and-Drive, and a second, fitted with a snow plow, for its expo hall display.
New customers for the 114SD NG include the Massachusetts Department of Transportation – whose new 114SD NG is to be on show in Indianapolis.
“While most of Freightliner’s 60% growth in natural gas sales in 2013 was attributed to the introduction of the (11.9-liter, up-to-400-horsepower Cummins Westport) ISX12 G into the Cascadia, natural gas sales with the M2 112 and 114SD models to local governments grew by more than 40%,” says Greg Treinen, segment product marketing manager for the 114SD and other natural gas trucks.
A Good Winter
“About a quarter of 2013’s government/municipal sales were snow plows,” he told F&F.
Freightliner’s M2 112 and 114SD NG models are both powered by the 11.9-liter ISL G, also manufactured by Cummins Westport.
Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp is at WTS-2014 too. Among FCCC’s several alternative fuel offerings is the S2G, a dedicated-propane autogas truck introduced at the NTEA Work Truck Show in 2012.
The 114SD, introduced at ACT Expo 2011 in Long Beach, Calif., is the first Freightliner truck offered with a CNG option from its initial factory run.
