FPT Promotes a New Powerful CNG Engine

Billed as ‘First Real 9-Liter Diesel Equivalent’

FPT Industrial (Fiat Powertrain Technologies) says that it’s new Cursor 9 CNG engine is “the first real 9-liter diesel equivalent” on the market. The “Naturally Powerful” engine with displacement of 8.7 liters, unveiled in late May at the at the Beijing Bus and Truck Show, has horsepower of 400 at 2,000 rpm.

The six-cylinder Cursor 9 CNG meets Euro VI emissions standards.

The engine is “the ideal solution for applications such as heavy haulage, garbage collection, city and intercity transportation,” FPT says. It does not need EGR/exhaust gas recirculation nor SCR/selective catalytic reduction, employing instead a three-way catalytic converter system.

‘A Whole New Market’

“This engine opens up a whole new market for alternative fuels, replacing the existing product, mainly engineered for applications such as city bus and waste collection,” FPT Industrial brand president Annalisa Stupenengo says in a release.

“We at FPT Industrial have raised the bar and developed this new class leading Cursor 9 CNG engine, a real alternative for long haul truck and intercity bus missions,” she said.
