Roush CleanTech is talking up Indiana’s Green Alternative Systems as a new propane autogas conversion partner, showing a Ford E-450 chassis shuttle bus converted by GAS at the 2012 BusCon Expo in Chicago, Ill.

Roush CleanTech unveiled a propane autogas-fueled shuttle bus converted by Green Alternative Systems at the BusCon show in Chicago.

Separately, Roush and Blue Bird Corp said they will serve as the primary sponsors for reigning Nascar champ Ricky Stenhouse Jr. at the Dollar General 300 at Chicagoland Speedway this Saturday, September 15.

GAS will use its existing sales and service network for Roush propane fueling systems for transit, paratransit and commercial ground transportation vehicles, Roush says.

‘€˜I remember riding a Blue Bird bus when I was a kid,‒ says Nascar champ Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.

Roush noted that the E-450 based vehicle with 6.8-liter V10 engine and a 41-gallon propane autogas fuel tank has passed Federal Transit Administration Altoona testing, and is certified for sale in all 50 states by the U.S. EPA and the California Air Resources Board. Operators will enjoy fuel costs 30% to 40% lower than gasoline, Roush says.

Ricky Stenhouse, meanwhile, is a fan, of Blues Bird and Roush. “Blue Bird has such a rich history,” he says in the Roush-Blue Bird Nascar announcement. “I remember riding a Blue Bird bus when I was a kid.

“The partnership that Blue Bird and Roush CleanTech have formed to provide clean emissions for the environment shows the class of these two organizations. The bright yellow Ford Mustang will definitely stand out on the track.

“Hopefully we can get them into victory lane for their Nascar debut,” Stenhouse said.

Blue Bird and Roush CleanTech have partnered on propane for school bus fleets since 2010. School district customers include Hall County, Ga.; Houston Independent; Mesa Public Schools in Arizona; Portland Public Schools in Oregon; and the Tippecanoe School Corporation in Indiana.

“As the only school bus manufacturer to provide complete alternative fuel solutions, Blue Bird is delighted to partner with a leading automotive innovator such as Roush CleanTech for this exciting race,” said Phil Horlock, president and CEO of Blue Bird Corp. “Blue Bird is thrilled to sponsor Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. as he looks to continue his winning success.”

Ricky Stenhouse has four career starts at Chicagoland with one top-five and two top-ten finishes.
