Sixth in Series of Videos Focuses on Michigan Transportation Company
DirecTV fleet services director Brandon Morris explains why the cable provider has converted 77 vehicles in Southern California to propane autogas in the sixth of a series of “Straight Talk” videos, freely accessible on the web, prepared by the Propane Education & Research Council and extolling the use of propane autogas for fleet vehicles of different types.
This is the sixth of the PERC Straight Talk
videos being debuted weekly by Fleets & Fuels
“Infrastructure was a huge concern,” Morris says.
“We did analysis on CNG and propane and E85 and a number of other alternative fuels,” Morris says. “Based on the infrastructure and operating parameters that we have with our technicians, propane was the most economical for us to implement right away.”
And, “We’ve seen a great reduction on what the cost per gallon is,” he says in the PERC video – “We see about $1.90 variance.”
HOV Lane Access Too
Another advantage? The dedicated-propane autogas vans are allowed single-driver access to Southern California’s coveted HOV lanes. Technicians are able to get to their job sites more quickly, and get home quicker too.
Since joining DirecTV in 2005, Morris and his team have managed a fleet of 5,750 vehicles consisting predominately of three-quarter-ton cargo vans and pickups deployed to 110 field locations nationwide.
