Olympia School District Converts One Third of Fleet
Roush CleanTech has now supplied 100% propane autogas fuel systems for a dozen Blue Bird buses operated by the Olympia Community Unit #16 School District in Stanford, Ill., near Peoria.
The district started with a trial of just two propane buses, Roush says, and is looking now to shift the entire fleet of 33 to propane as older buses are retired. The Olympia 16 district is the third largest rural school district in Illinois, Roush says, covering 377 square miles.
The buses each log about 20,000 miles annually.
Growmark’s Evergreen FS for Fuel
Olympia assistant superintendent Josh Olsen reckons that each of the propane buses saves the district $2,500 per year in fuel and maintenance. Thus each will save $300,000 over its ten-year life.
Olympia’s propane autogas fuel is supplied by Bloomington, Ill.-based Evergreen FS, which set up and continuously services and maintains four 1,000-gallon on-site propane tanks. “Typically,” says Roush, “the storage onsite provides a seven to eight day supply of propane.”
Evergreen FS is a member cooperative of Growmark, Inc., a regional agriculture-related products and services cooperative.
