The Tenth Anniversary AltCar Expo takes place September 18-19 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, Calif. “The past ten years has seen an explosion across the board in alternative technology vehicles for fleets and consumers and the infrastructure has grown exponentially,” states an AltCar Expo release.

NGVAmerica Underway in Denver

NGVAmerica and partners including NGV Global are gearing up for the 2015 North American Natural Gas Vehicle Conference & Expo September 15-17 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

“This year’s event will be bigger and bolder,” organizers say, “featuring more fleet operators, more expo booths, increased networking opportunities, in-depth case studies and technology updates.”

NGVAmerica promises 80 exhibitors in a 90,000-square-foot hall and says it expects approximately 800 attendees.

“The industry continues to grow, but the current environment demands that we unite the industry’s most influential business leaders, policy advocates, and decision makers as we work towards the continued adoption of clean-burning, domestic natural gas as a transportation fuel,” NGVAmerica president Matt Godlewski says.

In addition to Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, Clean Energy Fuels president and CEO Andrew Littlefair, and Fleets & Fuels publisher Gladstein, Neandross & Associates CEO Erik Neandross, scheduled speakers at two plenary sessions and more than a dozen breakout sessions include

  • Mike Whitlach, United Parcel Service global energy and procurement VP;
  • Scott Perry, Ryder System supply management and global fuel products VP;
  • Dave McCurdy, American Gas Association president and CEO;
  • Marty Durbin, America’s Natural Gas Alliance president and CEO;
  • Chip Wertz, Waste Management national director of fleet facility infrastructure;
  • Matt Krasney, Penske Truck Leasing alternative fuels director;
  • General Michael Hagee, 33rd Commandant (retired), U.S. Marine Corps;
  • Ian Skelton, Atlanta Gas Light natural gas vehicles director;
  • Victor Lovato, Denver International Airport operations manager;
  • Charles (Chip) Rimer, Noble Energy senior VP, U.S. Onshore; and
  • Matt Forman, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles U.S. senior manager, government affairs, state and federal.

The gathering includes optional tours of the City and County of Denver’s Central Platte Campus, which supports a fleet of 40 CNG refuse trucks with some 22,000 diesel gallon equivalents monthly, and the Denver International Airport, home to six CNG stations.

MOVE Review Monday-Tuesday

The NGVAmerica meeting will be preceded by an invitation-only MOVE Program Review September 14-15 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown. MOVE is the Methane Opportunities for Vehicular Energy initiative overseen by ARPA-E, the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Energy.

Calumet, Mich.-based REL, a materials technology specialist with achievements including novel high-temperature materials for NASA’s Space Shuttle, is promoting a non-cylindrical container for compressed natural gas that could be made to conform with available spaces on a vehicle chassis ­ solving the loss-of-stage quandary facing today’s CNG vehicles.
