EV Product Line Was Acquired from Brandt in France

Cenntro Automotive said Friday that it’s commencing production of the Citelec all electric light commercial utility vehicle at its facility in Sparks, Nev.

Cenntro added the Citelec to its product line via its $50 million acquisition of Brandt Motors, of Lyon, France, earlier this year (F&F, June 20). The vehicle, sold in Europe since 2013, “offers a unique solution to customers,” the company says, with single-charge range of up to 200 miles, payload of 1,400 pounds, and a top speed of 50 mph.

Cenntro’s Citelec has a single charge range of about 200 miles, the company says.

Cenntro also offers the low-speed Kombi EV.

“Our 80,000-square-foot facility opened in the third quarter and we have been pleased with our ability to quickly set up our manufacturing facility, find local talent that underscores commitment to quality and bring the Citelec to the United States,” Cenntro executive VP Marianne McInerney said in a release.

Fills a Market Void

“The Citelec launch in the US will fulfill an important void in the U.S. market – an affordable, versatile vehicle that can meet varying needs of multiple customer bases at an affordable price point,” she said.

“The Citelec platform can support local delivery needs with its spacious van box, and is available in nine configurations ranging from the van box, to a refrigerated unit to three flatbed configurations.”

$20,000 Base Price

The vehicle is initially to retail in the U.S. for less than $20,000 for a base unit. Cenntro says it’s moved forward with demo programs for American fleets.

“We are confident that we can ramp our production as we move through 2015 and introduce multiple lines,” McInerney said. Kevin Neal, formerly with Smith Electric Vehicles, is U.S. operations VP.

Cenntro maintains operations in France as well as Sparks.
