Efacec says it’s the first company to receive ETL certification for the SAE Combo-connected electric vehicle fast charger, applicable to U.S.- and European-built EVs. “This means the units will now be able to serve all electric plug-in vehicles available in the U.S. that are capable of receiving a DC Fast Charge,” Efacec says.

Efacec QC50 Chargers for SMUD

DC Unit for Sacramento with Multiple Customer Pay Options

Georgia-based Efacec is supplying its QC50 DC fast-chargers for electric vehicles to SMUD, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District in California. Efacec has an agreement with SemaConnect that will allow EV drivers to pay for their electricity by swiping a credit card, using a smartphone app, calling an 800 number or visiting a website, all via the SemaCharge network.

Southern California’s AeroVironment is up against names like ABB, GE, Eaton, Leviton and Siemens in the world market for electric vehicle chargers. But the $325 million (fiscal 2012 revenue) company says it’s holding its own against them, with more than 11,000 Level 2 chargers installed in North America to date.

U.S. Production of ChargePoint-Compatible Chademo Units

Fuji Electric has commenced U.S. production of its UL-certified 25-kilowatt DC Quick Chargers for electric vehicles in Milpitas, Calif. The manufacturer’s fourth generation, Chargepoint-compatible unit features a slimmer design than previous versions, “making it an ideal choice for a wide variety of commercial applications.”
