New 24-Kilowatt Unit for DC Fast-Charging: 100 RPH
ChargePoint is promoting its new Express 100 DC fast charger for electric vehicles as an economical unit capable of providing 100 RPH – 100 miles of range per hour.
The 24-kilowatt unit “provides drivers a quick place to recharge and offers an affordable and compact DC fast charger for businesses including retail locations, restaurants and convenience stores.”
The unit features a compact design and state-of-the-art power conversion electronics, but “is one of the lowest cost DC fast chargers available,” ChargePoint says.
The new Express 100 complements the 50-kilowatt Express 200 charger, with a maximum charging rate of 200 RPH, introduced earlier this year.
‘Only Vehicle’ Confidence
“With Express charging, drivers can run errands, shop or stop for a cup of coffee while they quickly top off their battery to extend their car’s range,” ChargePoint CEO Pasquale Romano says in the Express 100 announcement.
“ChargePoint Express is giving drivers range confidence so they can depend on an EV as their only vehicle,” Romano said.
ChargePoint says that express chargers allow drivers to recharge in just 20 to 30 minutes and as such “are crucial for both long distance travel and quick recharging around town.”
The firm noted today that in January, it announced a partnership with Volkswagen and BMW to create fast-charge corridors on the East and West Coasts (F&F, January 23). “There are already 144 Express locations on the ChargePoint network,” the company says.
ChargePoint Also this year launched ChargePoint Home for single-family homes and ChargePoint Multi-family Home Service for apartment and condominium buildings.
