GM Promises All-Electric Range Improvement of Nearly 40%

“Range, range and more range,” GM says, pledging to deliver an all-battery distance of 53 miles before the gasoline engine is needed on the 2016 Chevy Volt – “nearly a 40% improvement over the first-generation Volt.”

‘Unmatched Balance of Technology, Capability and Cost of Ownership’

GM has dropped the price of its Chevrolet Volt by $5,000, announcing that the 2014 model will start at $34,995, including an $810 destination fee. The Volt is a battery-heavy plug-in hybrid electric – or, call it a range-extended electric vehicle – with about 38 miles of no-gasoline capability.

Buying More Chevy Volts Too, and Ford C-Max Plug-Ins

Pacific Gas & Electric is close to placing an order for 50 CNG-gasoline pickup trucks with General Motors – management is working now on an optimal work crew placement plan for the bi-fuel pickups. Separately, the San Francisco-based utility is ordering dozens of additional plug-in hybrid electric vehicles from both GM and Ford.
