California Backs City CNG Station by Unison Solutions

The City of San Mateo held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new compressed natural gas fueling station for light duty municipal vehicles this month. The station, to be built next year south of the San Francisco International Airport, will be supplied with biogas from the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

Groundbreaking for a CNG Station by Unison Solutions

The City of San Mateo, south of San Francisco, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new biomethane-fed compressed natural gas fueling facility at the municipal wastewater treatment plant this coming Friday, December 11. BioCNG equipment is being provided by Iowa’s Unison Solutions.

Public DC Fast-Charge ‘Freedom Station’ at CalTrain Stop

The City of San Mateo (south of San Francisco) yesterday inaugurated a “Freedom Station” public electric vehicle charger installation by NRG eVgo at the downtown CalTrain commuter station.


EV drivers will be able “to live completely green by driving to the station on pure electric, taking the train, and then charging up before returning home on pure electric,” states a release.

The new NRG eVgo installation for the City Of San Mateo features both DC fast charge (from ABB) and Level 2 (ChargePoint) equipment.

The station has two Terra 53 DC fast chargers from ABB rated at 50 kilowatts, each with cables with Chademo and SAE Combo connectors, says NRG eVgo. There are also two Level 2 chargers, from ChargePoint.

‘No Cost to the City’

“The City of San Mateo is proud to have entered into this innovative partnership with NRG EVgo to provide this important amenity to downtown San Mateo at no cost to the city,” San Mateo sustainability manager Kathy Kleinbaum said in a release.

“This robust network of charging stations features the fastest public charging available and provides drivers with the confidence needed to purchase an EV and discover an incredible new driving experience,” said NRG eVgo VP Terry O’Day.
