Nine M2 Trucks for Mountain Valley Express to Use Redeem RNG:
They Are the First Freightliners to Employ ISL G Near Zero Engine
Nine new tractors with the super low-NOx 8.9-liter ISL G Near Zero engine from Cummins Westport have been purchased by Mountain Valley Express and will be fueled with Redeem brand RNG/renewable natural gas from Clean Energy Fuels, the fuel provider said this morning.
Mountain Valley Express is buying nine LNG-powered Freightliner M2 trucks with ISL: G Near Zero engines and will fuel them with Redeem brand biomethane from Clean Energy Fuels.
“They are buying Freightliner M2s with LNG,” Clean Energy business development manager Jeff Wittenberger told F&F.
They are the first Freightliner trucks to be fitted with the ISL G Near Zero engine, says Bob Carrick of Freightliner.
“These revolutionary engines reduce smog forming NOx emissions by 90% over the current EPA standard, and when combined with Redeem, have 70% less greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than diesel trucks,” states the Clean Energy release.
‘No Better Way’
Redeem RNG, aka biomethane, is available as liquefied natural gas or CNG/compressed natural gas.
“I can think of no better way to demonstrate our commitment to the environment and reducing our footprint, than by having these trucks use Redeem,” MVE president and CEO James Scott Blevins says in the Clean Energy announcement.
“At Mountain Valley Express,” he said, “Our motto is ‘Go Green.’”
Cummins Westport ISL G Near Zero
The engine has been certified (F&F, September 17, 2015) by the California Air Resources Board with a NOx emissions level of .02 grams per brake-horsepower-hour, Clean Energy says, noting that the agency “has defined this zero emissions level as equivalent to a 100% battery truck using electricity from a modern combined cycle natural gas power plant.”
And That Ain’t All…
A 12-liter Near Zero engine is expected next year.
Clean Energy also said this morning that it has contracts to build multiple fueling stations in early 2017, as well as new agreements in the trucking, transit and refuse sectors.
