The California Air Resources Board has certified the 100% natural gas-fueled 8.9-liter ISL G engine by Cummins Westport for “near zero emission” of nitrogen oxides: just 0.02 grams per brake-horsepower – 90% cleaner than the existing NOx standard of 0.2 grams in effect since 2010.

First Automated Transmission for a U.S. Spark-Ignition Natural Gas Engine

Eaton has unveiled an integrated powertrain package with automated transmission for trucks powered by the ISX12 G natural gas engine by Cummins Westport. The package with Eaton’s UltraShift Plus transmission provides customers “with the first automated transmission to be paired with a spark-ignited natural gas engine in the North American market.”

Cold Winter Takes Its Toll on Cummins Westport’s Spark Engines,
Intake Ice Can ‘Induce Elevated Exhaust Temperatures or Flames’

The fell winter has dealt a blow to natural gas trucking. Cummins Westport, Inc. has recalled more than 25,000 of its market-dominating dedicated-natural gas engines due to a problem with intake manifold ice that could present a fire hazard. Both the 8.9-liter ISL G and new 11.9-liter ISX12 G are affected.
