As Fuel Development Partner Starts Up Its First Plant in California

Mack Trucks is to begin production of dimethyl ether-powered Pinnacle Axle Back models with the 13-liter MP8 engine in 2015. Echoing its corporate parent Volvo Trucks, Mack says that DME is a “non-toxic, clean-burning alternative fuel, offers many environmental and societal benefits, including that it can be made from multiple sustainable feedstocks.”

Clean Power for Diesel-Cycle Engines Part of Multi-Fuel Strategy,
Safeway to Test in California from Brawley Plant Starting This Month

Volvo is working with California’s Oberon Fuels on bio-derived dimethyl ether for diesel-cycle compression ignition engines, part of a multi-fuel Volvo strategy that also includes natural gas and biodiesel. Safeway will test the diesel alternative in two trucks with Volvo D13 engines converted for DME. ‘Bulldog Walks the Walk’ on Alternative Drivelines
