First of the All-Electric Artics Are for LA Metro & AC Transit

New Flyer’s fully battery-powered, 60-foot articulated transit bus is to undergo U.S. Federal Transit Administration Altoona testing, the company said today. New Flyer describes the vehicle as “the industry’s first 60-foot electric heavy-duty transit bus.”

California Funding Xcelsior-Platform Vehicle Test with SunLine

New Flyer Industries reports that the California Energy Commission has approved a $2.1 million grant to conduct an advanced demonstration project involving a New Flyer XE40 Xcelsior electric transit bus with a 60-kilowatt Hydrogenics CelerityPlus fuel cell. The bus will be operated by Southern California’s SunLine Transit.

Proterra Sets Records in Altoona Trials

Proterra reports that its new Catalyst 40-foot all-electric battery buses has set four records in Federal Transit Administration trials in Altoona, Pa., most notably a miles-per-gallon-electric rating of 22 – as compared, the company says, with 3.86 for conventional diesel buses. “The Catalyst is also 15% more energy efficient per mile than the closest competitors’ electric bus,” Proterra said today.
