Michigan Upfitter Plans Chevy Trax and Buick Encore Too
Crazy Diamond Performance is stepping up its compressed natural gas vehicle offerings, promoting a dedicated-CNG Chevrolet Cruze LS and FuelMaker Phill package for $27,559.00. The Shelby Township, Mich.-based upfitter also planning CNG versions of Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore vehicles, to go on sale this spring.
“One of CDP’s priorities is to see the rapid and widespread adoption of CNG vehicles, both for fleets and for individuals,” CDP president Kevin Fern says in a release. “Offering the vehicle, retrofit and fuel appliance at the same time reduces costs and complexity while ordering.
“This makes the decision much easier for fleets who are concerned about purchasing and using a dedicated CNG vehicle, in locations where CNG fueling isn’t readily available,” he said.
CDP uses lightweight carbon fiber fuel cylinders from Utah’s Optimum Composites for the CNG Cruze, which has capacity for 8.5 gasoline gallon equivalents. The firm uses Blackstone CNG regulators and Bosch injectors. “All other components are CDP-sourced and built for CDP as CDP technology,” Fern told F&F.
CDP’s natural gas vehicles include an integrated diagnostics module that monitors and reports for failures and/or leaks of the CNG fuel system through the CDP-calibrated OEM engine control module.
CDP’s new Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore vehicles will also be dedicated-CNG.
