Pacific Gas & Electric is close to placing an order for 50 CNG-gasoline pickup trucks with General Motors – management is working now on an optimal work crew placement plan for the bi-fuel pickups. Separately, the San Francisco-based utility is ordering dozens of additional plug-in hybrid electric vehicles from both GM and Ford.

$200 Million to Expand E-Drive Engineering, Bring All to Pontiac

General Motors said Wednesday that it is investing $200 million in its Global Powertrain Engineering Headquarters at Pontiac, Mich. with a focus on advanced electric propulsion, and that it will consolidate work at four locations there. A new, 138,000-square-foot test wing is to be completed during the second half of 2014.

Production of the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra 2500 HD bi-fuel CNG pickup trucks is underway in Fort Wayne, Ind., General Motors said late last week, announcing that the vehicles are available for order by fleet and retail customers through Chevrolet and GMC dealers.

$561 Million Has Been Invested, the Automaker Says

General Motors said Tuesday that it will soon begin prepping its Detroit-Hamtramck facility for late-2013 production of the Cadillac ELR extended-range plug-in electric vehicle. The Chevrolet Volt, Opel Ampera, and Holden Volt extended-range EVs are all built at Detroit-Hamtramck. Extended-range electric vehicles are exported to 21 countries, GM says.
