‘Lead Position as Type 4 CNG Tank Supplier to the Passenger Car Segment’

Hexagon Composites has disclosed a seven-year contract worth an estimated $90 million U.S. (approximately 525 million Norwegian kroner) for Type IV compressed natural gas fuel cylinders from its Hexagon Raufoss unit for a major international car manufacturer.

“This nomination puts Hexagon Composites in the lead position as Type 4 CNG tank supplier to the passenger car segment,” Hexagon Raufoss sales and marketing director Jørn Helge Dahl said in a release.

“This further gives traction to CNG as an alternative fuel solution,” he said.

An initial product development phase is to commence in the third quarter. First deliveries are planned for the beginning of 2017, and the program is scheduled to run for up to seven years.

Type IV CNG cylinders are manufactured by Hexagon Raufoss in Raufoss, Norway, north of Oslo, and by affiliate Hexagon Lincoln in Lincoln, Neb.

Norway’s Hexagon Raufoss reports an order from Iveco for compressed natural gas fuel systems for 350 buses for Astana, Kazakhstan. They will be the first buses with all-composite Type IV cylinders in the country, states a release.

Parent to Invest Nearly $26 Million in Nebraska CNG Cylinder Plant

Norway’s Hexagon Composites, citing a growing market for natural gas vehicles in North America, reports an aggressive expansion plan for the Hexagon Lincoln factory in Lincoln, Neb. The parent company plans to invest an estimated 150 Norwegian krone, upwards of $25.8 million at current rates of exchange, to double Lincoln’s production capability for Type IV all-composite compressed natural gas fuel cylinders – again.

Hexagon-Raufoss Is the New Brand Effective October 1

The Ragasco unit of Hexagon Composites is supplying Type IV all-composite compressed natural gas fuel cylinders for the Mercedes-Benz B 200 Natural Gas Drive car for 2013. Separately, the firm is changing its Ragasco product branding to Hexagon-Raufoss effective October 1.
