American Honda North America said Monday that it’s dropping its dedicated-CNG Civic Natural Gas and Civic Hybrid models as of the end of the year.

American Honda’s Civic Natural Gas for 2014 goes on sale February 15 in 37 states with 195 certified dealers. MSRP is $26,640, or $29,290 with navigation package. A new seven-inch touchscreen and expanded view driver’s mirror are standard.

Auto Plant in Marysville Will Expand, Adding 50 U.S. Jobs,
Japan-Built Plug-In EPA-Rated at 115 MPGe in Battery Mode

Honda of America Manufacturing says it will invest $23 million and hire approximately 50 people at its Marysville, Ohio auto plant to add production of the new two-motor Accord Hybrid Sedan, slated to go on sale nationwide this fall. It will be the third Honda hybrid built in the U.S. and the first in Ohio.

‘Of Course,’ But After the Lingering 2012s Are Placed

American Honda will offer an Indiana-built 2013 Civic Natural Gas taking advantage of the 2013 model year’s new styling and features – but not until inventories of the 2012 CNG car are cleared. Honda broke almost all sales records for its dedicated natural gas vehicle this year, but because it was so optimistic in ramping up production early on, it still has 2012 cars to sell.

Don’t Forget NGVs! Says Energy Futures

The federal government sees hybrid electric vehicles as a bridge technology to zero emission pure battery and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles – but it should include natural gas vehicles in that category too.

That’s the view of Colorado’s Energy Futures and also of VNG, a new firm in New Jersey that’s helping establish the fueling infrastructure for NGVs.
