Automakers Form New $170 Million Joint Venture
To Produce Hydrogen-Powered Systems in Michigan

General Motors and Honda said Monday that they’ll jointly manufacture hydrogen fuel cell systems at GM’s existing battery pack plant in Brownstown, Mich., south of Detroit. It’s “the auto industry’s first manufacturing joint venture to mass produce an advanced hydrogen fuel cell system that will be used in future products from each company,” states a joint release.

The Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition and Virginia Transportation Corp are spreading the word about the April 6 ribbon-cutting of a new compressed natural gas fueling facility just east of Talladega that will support a new fleet car haulers serving the Honda plant in Lincoln, Ala.

Three Automakers Join Forces for Hydrogen Infrastructure in Japan

Toyota, Nissan and Honda “have agreed to work together to help accelerate the development of hydrogen station infrastructure for fuel cell vehicles,” Toyota said today, citing the Japanese government’s Strategic Road Map for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells formulated in June 2014.

Honda has shown its hydrogen fuel cell-powered FCV Concept vehicle as one of a raft of “next generation advanced powertrain vehicles” targeted for 2018. In addition to the new fuel cell car replacing the FCX Clarity, they’re to include a new battery-electric vehicle and new plug-in hybrid model by 2018, with “further application of two- and three-motor hybrid systems.”

Honda R&D Installs Advanced Hydrogen Fast-Fill Station in Torrance

Honda is talking up a hydrogen fueling station design it says can reduce the time needed to fuel a fuel cell vehicle with 10,000-psi tanks by as much as 45%. An “MC Fill” station has been set up at the company’s campus in Torrance, Calif., the company says, in anticipation of next year’s introduction of its new fuel cell-electric vehicle.

100% Battery Electric Car for $389 per Month in California and Oregon

Honda said today that it will begin offering its pure battery electric Fit EV, EPA-rated at an adjusted combined mile-per-gallon-equivalency rating of 118 MPGe, for $389 per month via three-year lease in California and Oregon effective July 20.
