Cummins Westport ISL-G Near Zero NOx Engine for 567, 520 and 320

Peterbilt Motors affirmed this morning that the Cummins Westport ISL G Near Zero NOx emissions natural gas engine is being made available on the Paccar unit’s Model 567, 520 and 320 trucks, beginning with the 520 and 320 by year-end. The new engine will become available on the Model 567 in early 2017.

Peterbilt quietly spread the word about its plans for ISL G NZ availability for the refuse truck market last week (F&F, August 23).

ISLGNear-Zero+peterbiltThe new engine’s emissions are 90% percent lower than the current EPA NOx limit through the introduction of a unique three way catalyst in the after-treatment, advanced engine calibration, and a closed crankcase ventilation system, Peterbilt said today.

‘Increasingly Efficient’

“Peterbilt is producing increasingly efficient products,” Peterbilt chief engineer Scott Newhouse says in the announcement. “The addition of the ISL-G Near Zero emissions engine strengthens Peterbilt as an environmental leader.”

The new engine’s performance and efficiency match the current ISL G, Peterbilt says, with 320 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft torque available. “Customers with linehaul, vocational and refuse applications will benefit from the efficient option.”

The ISL G NZ is “an excellent choice for our customers,” said Robert Woodall, assistant sales and marketing GM at Peterbilt.
