Aimed at Short-Range Operators with Tight-Turn Requirements

Stow, Ohio-based Trilogy Engineered Solutions has introduced a new uni-body 60 diesel gallon equivalent ‘Mini’ back of cab compressed natural gas fuel system. It’s aimed at operators with range requirements of 300 miles or less, and boasts a small footprint allowing for tighter turns. updated March 10

“Our new system introduces Trilogy to new markets, including beverage and dual-fuel,” Trilogy CFO Matt Lawrence said in a release.

“The introduction of Trilogy’s Mini Back of Cab fuel-delivery system begins a new era in which cutting-edge components have been designed specifically with the heavy-duty truck in mind,” said Art Holbert, integrated services and engineering manager.

Luxfer Tanks and Valves

Trilogy uses lightweight Luxfer G-Stor Pro Type III CNG tanks in the new Mini, which is available in capacities of 43 and 60 DGE. “A small footprint allows a tighter turn radius that helps beverage trucks avoid jackknifing, especially when making city deliveries,” Trilogy says.

“The system also works well for dual-fuel vehicles,” the company adds, “because it can be used without removing the diesel saddle.”

Trilogy ES Is Adding Locations Too

In addition to the Luxfer G-Stor Pro tanks, the Mini uses Luxfer one-turn valves and Luxfer flow-splitter technology “that manages heat more efficiently during filling, reducing the number of potential leak points, improving flow rates and increasing the achievable fill.”

Trilogy says it plans to incorporate the same Luxfer technology package into its earlier Hybrid Back of Cab systems. Trilogy disclosed its stepped-up relationship with Luxfer last year (F&F, November 18).

Trilogy installs its CNG systems at facilities in Chillicothe, Ohio (proximate to Kenworth’s factory, in Denton, Texas (proximate to Peterbilt’s factory) and in Indianapolis with Palmer Trucks (a major Kenworth dealer; F&F, March 4, 2014). A four location is being negotiated in Tulsa, Okla., says CFO Lawrence.

And, “We have made the decision to put our systems on all makes and models,” he told F&F – Trilogy is thus looking for locations to support Freightliner and Volvo OEM production as well as Paccar’s Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks.
