NGVAmerica has named Matthew Godlewski as its new president. He’s to succeed Rich Kolodziej, who ran the association for nearly 20 years, effective October 20.

Godlewski served as state affairs VP with the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. Previously, he was director of state and federal policy at Pernod Ricard USA and served in the global external affairs office of Seagram/Universal Studios, lobbying on state and federal issues. He has more than 20 years of experience, NGVAmerica says, “building effective teams, developing and executing strategic plans and working to shape policy at all levels of government.”

“Matt is an experienced trade association executive who has a proven ability to lead effective teams and collaborate with industry allies,” NGVAmerica chairman and Agility Fuel Systems president Ron Eickelman said in the Godlewski announcement.

Elevating the Mission

“He will help elevate NGVAmerica’s mission and brand in the months ahead,” Eickelman said.

“Matt will leverage his deep association experience and leadership skills to harness the collective power of the NGVA membership to promote further NGV technology development, fuel infrastructure growth and regulatory support for natural as a transportation fuel,” said Ryder System VP Scott Perry.

“The road ahead for natural gas as a transportation fuel is full of opportunity,” said Godlewski. NGVAmerica says it expects a 20% increase in the purchase of large trucks that run on natural gas over last year, “and the compound annual growth rate in the volume of natural gas used in transportation is estimated to exceed 11% through 2040.

In Time for Kansas City

“Companies are building infrastructure across the nation to support this historic growth among public and private fleets, and to increase adoption in the consumer vehicle sector,” the association says.

Godlewski is a graduate of Michigan State University’s James Madison College. He holds a bachelor’s degree in American Public Affairs.

He’ll be the new NGVAmerica chief as the Washington, D.C.-based association and the Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance host the 2014 North American NGV Conference & Expo November 10-14 in Kansas City. The deadline to reserve a discounted room at the headquarters Crowne Plaza hotel is October 24.
