Organizations Want Feedback on Joint Research Roadmap

The California Energy Commission staff will conduct a public workshop with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to solicit public feedback and input on the two organizations’ 2015 Natural Gas Vehicle Research Roadmap.

The California Energy Commission is hosting a natural gas vehicles workshop with the with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Sacramento on March 8.

The California Energy Commission is hosting a natural gas vehicles workshop with the with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Sacramento on March 8.

The draft document, which updates a report dating from 2009, was released at this past fall’s NGV Tech Forum in San Francisco. The CEC-hosted workshop is slated for Tuesday, March 8 at CEC headquarters in Sacramento.

“The roadmap serves as a guiding document to describe the strategic research, development, demonstration, and deployment needed to enhance the viability of the natural gas vehicle market in California,” states a meeting notice.

Huge Potential

“As a transportation fuel, natural gas could offset over 750 million gallons of diesel per year by 2022, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 4 million metric tons per year, and saving the state approximately $1.35 billion in fueling costs annually,” states the draft report.

CEC and NREL will take stakeholder input on three priority areas for future NGVs funding: engine development and vehicle integration, fueling infrastructure and storage, and technical and strategic studies.
