Philadelphia’s Peco utility is talking up receipt of 22 Ford chassis bucket trucks with Odyne plug-in hybrid electric drivetrains – the first to be deployed under a joint U.S. Department of Energy, Electric Power Research Institute, and South Coast Air Quality Management District program.

Heavy duty plug-in hybrid electric vehicle specialist Odyne reports that Allison Transmission “has globally endorsed” its electric power takeoff equipment for trucks using Allison’s 3000 and 4000 series transmissions.

Allison Buys Equity Stake in Odyne

Allison Transmission said yesterday that it’s taken a non-controlling equity stake in heavy duty plug-in hybrid drive specialist Odyne, stating that the new relationship between “will benefit commercial hybrid trucks with urban drive cycles and high energy requirements while the vehicle is stationary… operators in vocations such as utility bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes and other applications that require worksite stationary power.”


First Odyne-Drive Kenworth Trucks

Odyne Hybrid Systems is talking up placement of large four bucket trucks by its parent Dueco, Inc. with plug-in hybrid electric vehicle drivetrains by Odyne.

The T370 vehicles are the first Kenworths to be deployed with the PHEV system, Odyne says.

The trucks for Milwaukee County were displayed at Rainbow Park in West Allis, Wisc. on April 20.
