Incentives of $95,000 Per Battery Electric Truck,
Plus New Trucks Are Available as Well as Repowers

Kansas City-based Orange EV said this morning that its 100% battery electric T-Series Class 8 terminal truck in eligible for $95,000 in purchase support in California via HVIP, the state’s Hybrid & Zero-Emission Truck & Bus Voucher Incentive Project.

The vehicles have been operating for 24 hours or more per charge in railroad intermodal, LTL freight, manufacturing, retail distribution, waste management and warehouse container handling applications, the company says.

“Businesses and organizations with fleets in California can get a preliminary voucher amount of $95,000 per truck, increasable up to $120,000 and stackable with other incentive programs to lower initial purchase price,” states today’s release.

An Easy Application Process

“California HVIP vouchers dramatically simplify and speed up the process of obtaining funds, thereby accelerating vehicle deployment,” chief commercial officer Mike Saxton says in the announcement.

“Orange EV’s T-series and the corresponding voucher amount are all pre-approved, eliminating uncertainty and enabling fleets to execute deployment plans without having to go out-of-pocket for the additional capital,” he said.

Make It Up on Fuel

“The balance can be financed, further reducing initial cash outlay and helping fleets pay the balance from savings in large expense items like diesel fuel,” the company says.

Orange EV spread the word last week that it is now offering new-chassis vehicles, as well as upfits of existing terminal trucks to full battery power.

“Moran has been pleased with the performance and value demonstrated with their first T-Series purchase last year,” Orange says, as “the electric truck has had an immediate and substantial effect on reducing their carbon footprint.

Cheaper Than Cheap Diesel

“Operating electric terminal trucks is reducing unit energy cost by more than 80% even with the low price of diesel fuel,” states a release.

Orange EV says that its T-Series vehicle is the first heavy-duty electric, Class 8 truck of its type commercially deployed and certified.

Standard Duty Orange EV Truck

Moran is deploying Orange EV’s standard duty truck, Orange says, “operating through the shift and then plugging in with battery to spare and recharging overnight.”

Other customers have deployed Orange EV’s extended duty truck with larger battery pack and alternate charging solutions.

Chassis Supplier and Battery Drive Developer Join Forces in Terminal Tractors

Kansas City-based Orange EV is teaming with chassis supplier Kalmar Ottawa to commercialize full battery electric terminal tractors.

The T-Series all-battery terminal tractor from Orange EV 'has been tested and proven in a range of fleet operating environments including LTL freight transportation, distribution, manufacturing and intermodal services,' the company says.

The T-Series all-battery terminal tractor from Orange EV ‘has been tested and proven in a range of fleet operating environments including LTL freight transportation, distribution, manufacturing and intermodal services,’ the company says.

Citing “customer demand for emission-free freight logistics,” the firms are collaborating on the application of Orange EV’s technology in the Kalmar Ottawa T2 terminal tractor, Orange EV says.

‘A New Truck They Already Know’

“The T-Series, a remanufactured solution which gives operators ‘a new truck they already know,’ has repeatedly proven it can do the job supporting 24 x 7 operations, cost effectively and with zero emissions,” Orange EV CEO Wayne Mathisen says in this week’s announcement.

“The opportunity to work with industry leader Kalmar Ottawa will enable Orange EV to accelerate adoption of electric terminal tractors,” Mathisen said.

Kalmar Ottawa invented the terminal tractor in 1958 and has sold more than twice as many trucks as its competitors combined. Kalmar Ottawa is known as the market leader in product innovation.

‘Win-Win’

“The opportunity to blend our two products and distribution networks is a win-win,” said Kalmar Ottawa sales VP Dave Wood.

The T-Series, says Orange EV, has been tested and proven in a range of fleet operating environments including LTL (less-than-truckload) freight transportation, distribution, manufacturing and intermodal services. “Customer demonstrations onsite with national brand leaders showed that an electric terminal tractor can reliably do the job of current diesel trucks while delivering far greater environmental and financial value,” the company says.
