Roush CleanTech Autogas Gear for 22 Ford E-450 Bakery Trucks
The Propane Education & Research Council honored Chicago’s Alpha Baking for the firm’s 22 propane autogas-fueled, Ford E450-based delivery trucks that handle Alpha’s “iconic” S. Rosen’s bread brand. The Alpha-Rosen’s fleet was deployed in 2012 and is managed by Penske (F&F, June 16, 2013).
‘It was the right thing to do,’ says Alpha Baking VP and logistics director Bob McGuire.
“Alpha Baking has proven to be an alternative fuel leader in both its community and nationwide,” PERC business development boss Tucker Perkins said in a release. “The bakery’s investment in propane autogas embodies how fleets across the U.S. can implement green practices in an economic and practical way.”
Since making the switch from diesel to propane autogas, Alpha has reduced harmful emissions by 50%, PERC says.
‘It’s Efficient, and It Keeps Our Communities Clean’
“Alpha Baking’s primary reason for adopting propane autogas was because it was the right thing to do,” Alpha Baking VP and logistics director Bob McGuire says in the PERC announcement.
“Propane autogas reduces harmful emissions, it’s made in the U.S., it reduces our dependency on foreign oil, it’s efficient, and it keeps our communities clean,” McGuire said. “Choosing vehicles that run on American-made propane autogas has also allowed us to lower fuel costs without sacrificing performance.”
PERC presented its Propane Autogas Green Fleet Award to Alpha at the annual Green Fleet Conference & Expo in Schaumburg, Ill. late last month.
