Acquiring 41 Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2s

Thomas Built Buses’ Saf-T-Liner C2 propane-powered school buses have impressed a Minnesota school district enough to order 38 more for its fleet. Independent School District 15 (ISD 15), located in St. Francis, Minn., tested three propane-powered buses and placed an order for 41 of the district’s 51 buses to be propane autogas-powered during the 2015-16 school year.

Saving Money with Autogas in 2012

Alliance AutoGas is continuing to trumpet the money-saving attributes of propane – popularly called autogas – recently talking up the experience of Buncombe County’s Mountain Mobility in North Carolina, and the Marinette Police Department in Wisconsin.

Both use the bi-fuel Prins VSI vapor sequential injection system from Alliance AutoGas co-founding partner American Alternative Fuel.

California Gaseous Fuel Vehicles Incentives

The California Energy Commission has released its program opportunity notice – PON-11-603C – detailing the state’s Buy-down Incentives for Natural Gas and Propane Vehicles.

CEC is making available $6.45 million for light-, medium- and heavy-duty natural gas vehicles, $5.3 million for light-, medium-, and heavy-duty propane vehicles, and $1.0 million for propane school buses. Grants are for new vehicles only, disbursed through vehicle manufacturers, who are to work through California dealers and distributors.

OEMs must make sure that the incentive amount is shown clearly on the sale or lease documents, and “that the value of the incentive accrues entirely to the purchaser or lessee.”

Incentives range up to $10,000 for medium duty propane vehicles and $32,000 for heavier NGVs with fuel capacity of at least 190 DGE (diesel gallon equivalent).

Propane Rally in April in Atlanta

The National Propane Gas Association and fellow proponents of the most widely used alternative fuel are staging a Propane Clean Air Rally and Autogas Vehicle Parade as the kick-off to the industry’s Centennial year.

The Propane Clean Air Rally will be held in and around Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta on Saturday, April 14.
