Approval Is for Liquid Propane- and Natural Gas-Powered Versions

Illinois-based Power Solutions International reports U.S. EPA certification of its 8.8-liter engine, both propane autogas-and natural gas-fueled, for on-highway applications.

PSI describes the 8.8-liter engine as a cost-competitive, easy-to-integrate option for medium-duty commercial truck and bus fleets.

“The new engine suits a wide range of on-highway applications, including vocational trucks, school and transit buses, delivery fleets, recreational vehicles, tow and utility trucks, and garbage trucks,” the company says.

‘Cleaner and Considerably Less Expensive’

“Our alternative-fuel engines are a cleaner and considerably less expensive solution when compared to diesel,” PSI chairman and CEO Gary Winemaster said in a release. “We offer on-highway OEMs a quality alternative that meets their performance, compliance and economic demands, while providing the flexibility to choose the best fueling strategy.”

PSI says that the 8.8-liter liquid-injected propane engine is designed for diesel-like power and performance. The engine was displayed at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis earlier this year (F&F, February 23).

Michigan’s Power Solutions International continues to promote its road-capable engines, and although the firm insists it is “fuel-agnostic,” there is a decided whiff of propane as the company gears up for the 2014 edition of the NTEA Work Truck show in Indianapolis March 4-7.
