Food Giant Supports CNG Market with Public Fueling Stations

PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay unit said yesterday that its compressed natural gas truck fleet this month reached the milestone of more than 100 million miles in the U.S. And, the company said, “Critical to the expansion of Frito-Lay’s CNG fleet has been the development of a national infrastructure for alternative fuel.”

Station to Support New Fleet of 56 Freightliner Cascadia Trucks

Evo Trillium CNG and Central Freight Lines are hosting the grand opening of a new compressed natural gas fueling station in Fort Worth on the early morning of Earth Day, April 22. The public access station will support Central’s CNG fleet, including 56 new Freightliner Cascadia tractors with fuel tanks installed by Agility Fuel Systems.

The U.S. Congress has seen action on natural gas vehicles, with the House of Representatives voting to restore important incentives for NGVs that expired at the end of 2013. Separately, a Senate Finance subcommittee took testimony from industry experts, including Rich Kassel, senior VP with Fleets & Fuels publisher Gladstein, Neandross & Associates, at a hearing titled Natural Gas Vehicles: Fueling American Jobs, Enhancing Energy Security, and Achieving Emissions Benefits.

Evo Trillium for Fueling in Fort Worth and San Antonio

Waco, Texas-based Central Freight Lines has added 100 CNG-fueled M2 112 trucks to its fleet of more than 1,600 vehicles, manufacturer Freightliner reports, noting that Central will support them with fueling stations being developed with partners in Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston.

Frito-Lay is unveiling its inaugural compressed natural gas fueling station at a ceremony with top executives, and government official in Beloit, Wisc this morning – and is spreading the word that Trillium CNG and Questar have been picked to build five and two more CNG stations, respectively, for public access.
