Ford Is Claiming the Most CNG-Propane Options of Any OEM

Ford is talking up the first production, in Kansas City, of an F-150 pickup with the gaseous-fuel prep option on its 3.7-liter V-6 engine. “By next summer, Ford will offer eight vehicles that can run on clean-burning, inexpensive CNG/LPG… [This] puts the company on track to sell more than 15,000 such vehicles this year,” states a release.

Gas-Prep Engines for New (and Larger) Transit Cab, Cutaways

Ford roared into the 2013 Work Truck Show in Indianapolis with word that it’s expanding its line of vehicles that are delivered factory-ready for alternative fuels with gaseous-prep engines. Among them are all-new Transit chassis cab and cutaway models, “engineered to tackle an almost unlimited variety of specialized jobs and vocations.”

Different Strategies for Electric and Gaseous Fuel Vehicles

Ford is talking up the $550 million upfit of MAP, its venerable Michigan Assembly Plant, for a line of common-platform gasoline and electric-drive vehicles, but has chosen case-by-case upfits by half a dozen aftermarket firms, designated Qualified Vehicle Modifiers (QVMs), for compressed natural gas and propane.

Dallas-based BAF Technologies has acquired Belleville, Mich.-based ServoTech Engineering – its longtime supplier of compressed natural gas engine calibration support.

BAF Celebrates 20 Years, 20,000th NGV

BAF opened its brand new, 90,000-square-foot Dallas headquarters April 19, celebrating 20 years in the natural gas vehicles business – and showing off its 20,000th NGV.

“This year we’ll do about 5,000 vehicles,” said BAF president John Bacon.
