Seven Transit Providers to Deploy Battery & Fuel Cell Buses

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration yesterday announced $22.5 million worth of awards for its Low and No-Emission Vehicle Deployment initiative, aka Lo-No. Seven transit providers in five states will receive money to help pay for “buses and related facilities that utilize battery-electric, fuel cell, and other innovative technologies to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions and improve operating efficiency,” FTA says. updated April 20


Proterra Trumpets Seattle Catalyst Trial

Heavily Laden 40-Footer Averaged 325 Miles per Day

Battery bus manufacturer Proterra has released the results of a 106-day trial of a 40-foot Catalyst FC (fast-charge) bus with King County Metro in Seattle. The vehicle ran 24 hours per day to simulate one year and, with 14,500 pounds of water ballast representing 125% of a normal full load of 77 passengers, logged 32,545 total miles – “nearly twice the distance of standard industry tests at Altoona,” Proterra says. updated April 4
