NFTA’s Military Road Station Is to Have a Two-Compressor ANGI Package
Trillium CNG has signed a letter of agreement to design, build, operate and maintain a compressed natural gas fueling station for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority in Buffalo, N.Y. NFTA provides public transit service in Erie and Niagara counties.
The new CNG station will be located at the NFTA Frontier Bus Garage on Military Road in Buffalo. The agreement letter also calls for Trillium CNG to provide station maintenance for ten years. Trillium CNG and NFTA expect to break ground in August with the station fully operational by the end of 2015.
It’s to have two 250-horsepower, ANGI-packaged compressors, expandable to five, feeding four fast-fill transit dispensers and four light-fury satellite dispensers. There will be six storage tubes.
NFTA operates a fleet of about 332 transit buses and 65 bus routes with over 4,400 bus stops serviced; along with a 6.2 mile light rail system servicing 14 stations, Trillium says.
44 Nova Bus NGVs for NFTA, with Options for More
Volvo’s Nova Bus announced an $11 million order for 20 of its low-floor LFS model CNG buses from NFTA last year, noting options for as many as 166 buses. They are to be assembled in New York State for delivery this year. They will be the first CNG vehicles from Nova Bus for the U.S.
The NFTA board has since approved the purchase of 24 more Nova Bus vehicles for delivery in 2016. The buses have 8.9-liter ISL G engines from Cummins Westport and CNG cylinder assemblies by Agility Fuel Systems, each with nine Type III carbon fiber-on-aluminum tanks from Worthington.
CNG Paratransit Vehicles Too
In addition to the Nova Bus vehicles, NFTA is buying ten CNG-fueled paratransit vehicles through Canandaigua, N.Y.-based Shepard Brothers. It’s the third order of ten from Shepherd, and the first for CNG. The Ford E-450 chassis vehicles have bodies by Coach & Equipment Manufacturing of Penn Yan, N.Y. The new buses will have CNG fuel system by Green Alternative Systems.
