Coming Solicitations Will Support Both NGVs and Fueling Infrastructure

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality continues to aggressively support the greater use of natural gas vehicles in the state. TCEQ has launched and is preparing multiple solicitations under TERP, the Texas Emission Reduction Plan, to bankroll both NGVs and their associated fueling infrastructure for the next two fiscal years.

Penske Awarded Grants State & Federal Grants Totaling $1.5 Million
Allowing Purchase of Natural Gas-Fueled Freightliner Cascadia Trucks
And Supporting a New Program to Make the NGV Case to Fleet Customers

Penske Truck Leasing said Tuesday that it’s the recipient of four grants totaling $1.1 million from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) through the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP). “It is expected,” the company said, that it “will utilize the grants to subsidize the purchase of natural gas Freightliner Cascadia tractors equipped with Cummins Westport 12-liter engines.”

TCEQ/TERP Seek ‘Self-Sustaining Market for Natural Gas Vehicles’

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is offering as much as $7.6 million in grants to help build fueling stations “to serve as a foundation for a self-sustaining market for natural gas vehicles in Texas.”

The Clean Transportation Triangle (CTT) and Alternative Fueling Facilities Program (AFFP) grants are part of TERP, the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan.

Eligible fuels for the CTT portion include compressed natural gas and/or liquefied natural gas. Eligible alternative fuels for the AFFP include biodiesel, hydrogen, methanol, natural gas, propane, and electricity.

TCEQ has scheduled grant application workshops for

  • Tuesday, December 3 at TCEQ headquarters in Austin;
  • Wednesday, December 4 at the Tracy Gee Community Center in Houston;
  • Thursday, December 12 at the Alamo Area Council of Governments in San Antonio; and
  • Friday, December 13 at the North Central Texas Council of Governments in Arlington.

Proposals in response to TCEQ’s joint RFGA (request for grant application) are being accepted until February 18.

Texas CEQ Grants Money for New Kenworth Vehicles Under TNGVGP
As AGL’s Pivotal LNG Publicizes Deal to Supply LNG to UPS in Tennessee

UPS has Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) funding for approximately 130 new liquefied natural gas trucks. The Texas purchases alone will more than double the package and logistics firm’s existing fleet of 112 Kenworth tractors, which operate primarily out of Southern California and Las Vegas.
