NGV Count ‘Jumped’ to 9,000 in State, from 7,100 in 2014

The Texas Natural Gas Foundation is celebrating the rise of natural gas vehicles in the state, as evidenced by a growing number of fueling stations and a growing number of natural gas-fueled cars and trucks on Texas roads.

Map compiled by the Texas Natural Gas Foundation shows that NGV drivers have 150 places to fuel in Texas – 44% more than the 104 stations counted this past August.

“Texas fleet managers continue to recognize the importance of diversifying their fuel sources to cut costs.” TXNG president Jason Isaac said in a release.

According got a foundation survey, the number of NGVs “jumped from 7,100 in Texas in 2014 to 9,000 today.”

150 Places to Fuel

Texas drivers, TXNG says, now have 150 places to fuel their NGVs – a 44% gain from 104 outlets in the state in August 2014. Forty-one additional stations are set to open in 2016, the organization says, adding to the state’s current 64 public and 86 private fueling facilities.

“We should encourage the use of Texas fuels, like natural gas, that help build our state’s roads and support our public education, while growing our economy, especially when some petroleum based fuels are coming from countries that aren’t our allies,” Isaac said.

“Unlike other alternative fuels, the use of natural gas as a motor fuel keeps our economy strong by funding these important sectors, and it’s important for every Texan to be aware of the benefits of this abundant, domestic natural resource.”
