The unit occupies less than 7 liters of space and weighs less than 10 kilograms (22 pounds), and can produce 600 amperes at voltages up to 500.

“We Continue to Expand Our Reach’

“The next generation inverter marks another advancement for UQM as we continue to expand our reach in the commercial EV market and offer the latest technology to our customers,” UQM sales and marketing VP Adrian Schaffer said in a release.

“Our team looks forward to sharing this initial product unveiling with key customers and industry colleagues before we release it to the market as a whole,” he said.

‘PowerPhase Pro’ for 2018

The new inverter will feature in a new UQM PowerPhase Pro driveline that’s to be production-ready in 2018.

Schaffer is participating in a panel session at the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Expo conference tomorrow morning, Wednesday, September 14. The event runs concurrently with The Battery Show, September 13-15 in Novi, Mich.

“The extension reflects the increased demand in the U.S. marketplace for the Proterra buses and the expected increased production volume of the UQM PowerPhase HD systems,” states a release.

UQM notes that Proterra vehicles have logged 2 million miles of revenue service (F&F, March 3) with operators in California, Washington, Texas, Tennessee, Minnesota, South Carolina, Florida, Massachusetts Kentucky, and Nevada – “with growing demand nationally.”

‘Second to None’

“The experience we have mutually gained with Proterra through their support, success and growth has translated into a product that is second to none in this market,” UQM president and CEO Joe Mitchell says in today’s announcement.

“We look forward to our continued growth and expanding our drivetrain technology offerings globally to support this exciting market segment,” he said.

‘Helped Us Raise the Bar’

“UQM has consistently performed to our expectations, and helped us raise the bar for the market as a whole,” said Proterra CEO Ryan Popple.

“The extension of our long-term supply agreement with UQM reflects our mutual success in this partnership, and speaks to the ability of both teams to address the technology curve as well as provide solutions that are attractive to our EV customer base.”
