Latest PowerPhase Unit Is Smaller and Lighter
UQM Technologies is trumpeting a new PowerPhase brand electric vehicle motor inverter at this week’s Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Expo in Michigan.
“The new inverter is designed for extremely high reliability,” UQM says. It provides 135 kilowatts of peak and 100 kilowatts of continuous power for light and medium duty commercial EVs and high performance passenger vehicles, “with a very compact form factor for optimized packaging, high reliability and low cost.”
The unit occupies less than 7 liters of space and weighs less than 10 kilograms (22 pounds), and can produce 600 amperes at voltages up to 500.
“We Continue to Expand Our Reach’
“The next generation inverter marks another advancement for UQM as we continue to expand our reach in the commercial EV market and offer the latest technology to our customers,” UQM sales and marketing VP Adrian Schaffer said in a release.
“Our team looks forward to sharing this initial product unveiling with key customers and industry colleagues before we release it to the market as a whole,” he said.
‘PowerPhase Pro’ for 2018
The new inverter will feature in a new UQM PowerPhase Pro driveline that’s to be production-ready in 2018.
Schaffer is participating in a panel session at the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Expo conference tomorrow morning, Wednesday, September 14. The event runs concurrently with The Battery Show, September 13-15 in Novi, Mich.
