This Time It’s the Gas-Prep 5.0 to Benefit CNG and Propane Vehicles

Ford has pledged to release a gaseous-prep version of its 5.0-liter spark-ignition V-8 engine for 2016, paving the way for increased sales of propane autogas- and CNG-powered versions of the popular F-150 pickup.

Ford is announcing a new gaseous prep engine today, noting that the 3.7-liter V-6 with hardened valves paves the way for CNG- and propane autogas-powered F-150 pickups and Transit vans – including the new and larger Transits for 2014. Ford said compressed natural gas sells for an average of $2.11 per gallon of gasoline equivalent, “and is as low as $1 in some parts of the country.”

3M said early today that it’s successfully completed the NGV2-2007 certification process for its first compressed natural gas fuel cylinder, a Type IV tank made with a proprietary matrix resin material said to enhance the properties of costly carbon strength fiber – thus saving money by allowing the use of less fiber. updated October 17

Adrian, Mich.-based Venchurs Vehicle Systems reports U.S. EPA certifications covering its compressed natural gas conversions of model year 2013 Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks. Venchurs offers both dedicated-CNG and CNG-gasoline bi-fuel and conversions.
